Vega (Illumination Device)
The Vega light source presents a solution for high precision measurements of exceedingly short exposure times often seen in automotive-grade cameras. Vega uses LEDs that are driven by DC (direct current) technology making it one of our most sophisticated and unique light sources ever developed.
Cameras with very short exposure times often experience stability problems due to inadequate testing devices. Vega has extremely high stability that provides a previously unattainable consistency for measuring these types of cameras.
While we do use DC technology for this device, we are able to eliminate color shifting through the meticulous selection of the LEDs. The DC driver does not affect temperature regulation and we can achieve temperature stability within half a degree. The temperature system works both ways (i.e., heating and cooling) and it will remain consistent even when turning on/off different light sources or changing the intensities.
Vega also has advanced flicker capabilities and can be generated from a wider frequency range. We have also further developed the low-frequency functionality to include sine, triangular, and square waveforms, which allows us to cover nearly all real-world scenarios.
Why Vega?
Unlike PWM controlled light sources, where intensity is regulated by the high-frequency of switching the LEDs on/off, Vega regulates the intensity by the amount of current. Vega offers 1,000,000 equal-width steps for intensity control. These feature allows the Vega to measure high intensities with extremely short exposure times. HDR cameras from the automotive sector benefit greatly from this technology as they require the highest level of performance to ensure safety.
When to use Vega?
Vega will best be utilized when measuring Contrast Detection Probability (CDP), Modulated Light Mitigation Probability (MMP), OECF, or other high-intensity measurements. All of these factors are relevant to the automotive sector, but also apply to other sectors that have high demands on accuracy.
Vega software
Vega is sold with included control software that will allow you to control up to seven Vega devices at one time. An API is also available (sold separately) for smooth integration into individual designs.
Vega hardware
The Vega is available in three separate hardware sets. Each set comes with a controller and control software. The controller can connect and control up to seven different Vega light sources. All of which can be programmed with the control software.
The Vega Starter Set* is sold with one Vega light source and is perfect for those looking for a simple solution for testing HDR cameras with very short exposure times.
The Vega Flicker Set* is sold with three Vega light sources and is for those searching for a solution to test camera performance against varying flicker frequencies.
The Vega CDP Set* is sold with seven Vega light sources (maximum amount for one controller) and is the perfect solution for testing the overall CDP performance of an automotive camera system.
In addition to the three sets listed above, we also offer individual Vega light sources as an “add-on” option for your project (an “add-on” does not come with a controller or control software).
